How to Use a 5 Letter Word Finder by Position

A 5 letter word finder by position helps when you know one or more exact letter slots. Put correct-position letters in the five boxes, add required letters to Include, and add impossible letters to Exclude.

Step 1: Enter exact letters in the boxes

Each box stands for one position in a five-letter word. If you know the first letter is S and the third letter is A, type S in the first box and A in the third box. Leave the other boxes empty.

Step 2: Add letters that must appear

Use Include for letters that must be somewhere in the word. In Wordle, this is where yellow letters belong unless you already know their exact green position.

Step 3: Exclude letters that cannot appear

Use Exclude for letters that your clue has ruled out. This is especially useful after several guesses, because removing impossible letters can shrink a large result set quickly.

Example

If your pattern is S _ A _ E, type S in position 1 and A in position 3 and E in position 5. If the word must contain R, put R in Include. If T, L, and N are impossible, put TLN in Exclude.

Common mistakes

Do not put a yellow Wordle letter into a position box unless it has turned green in that exact position. Do not put the same letter in Include and Exclude at the same time. If results disappear, clear one condition and try again.

Share the exact search

After you enter positions, included letters, or excluded letters, the finder keeps those filters in the URL. Use Share search when you want to save the same clue pattern or send it to someone else without rebuilding the search.

Search by position now

Use the five position boxes first, then narrow results with include and exclude letters.

FAQ

What does by position mean in a word finder?

It means you can search for words where a known letter must appear in a specific slot, such as A in the third position.

What should I do with unknown positions?

Leave unknown positions blank. The finder will treat blank boxes as any possible letter.

How do I use this with Wordle yellow letters?

Put yellow letters in Include because they are in the answer somewhere, but do not place them in an exact position unless you know the position is correct.
