How to find a Poople answer

  1. Enter your current word. Use the four-letter starting word from your Poople board, or the word where you got stuck. The target is always POOP.
  2. Choose your route. Common words first is the default. Fewest steps allows the full word list. Capitalization and surrounding spaces do not matter.
  3. Choose how much to reveal. Start with a position clue, ask for the replacement letter, then reveal the next word. Reveal the full answer only when you want it. Unrevealed steps stay off the page.
  4. Check the game. If a middle word is rejected, select Avoid this word. The next search keeps your starting word and looks for a route without that word.

A four-change example

WORD → WOOD → WOOL → POOL → POOP

Every neighboring pair differs at exactly one position. Five words represent four changes. WORD to WOOD replaces R with O in position three. This is a practice example, not today's puzzle.

The solver may find another equally short route. A shortest route is defined by the available words, so changing the dictionary or excluding a word can change the answer.

Poople rules and next-step help

One letter at a time, toward POOP

Poople gives you a four-letter starting word. Change exactly one letter in place at each move, keeping real words, until you reach POOP. An answer is the route between the two words, not a single hidden word.

Poople hints without the whole answer

A position clue leaves you to find the replacement. A letter clue narrows the next move further. Revealing one next word still leaves the rest of the route for you to solve. You can also start a new search from your current word.

For a Poople answer today, enter the starting word from the board you are playing. This page does not identify the daily puzzle automatically, publish a dated answer archive, or offer a playable unlimited edition.

Independent word list and Poople compatibility

This Poople solver uses the site's 5,470 four-letter base entries, derived from word-list 4.1.0, plus 1 documented addition: POOP, the original Poople target. The addition belongs to this tool only; it does not change the general word finders.

Common-word preference uses wordfreq 3.1.1 by Robyn Speer, an English usage snapshot through approximately 2021. We mark an intermediate word common at Zipf 3.50 or higher: 1,315 entries meet that editorial threshold. Frequency does not prove a word is suitable for every audience or accepted by Poople. A valid starting word remains allowed even below the threshold.

The downloadable frequency data includes attribution, source notices and the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. We filtered the data to our four-letter list and scaled scores by 100; it adds no new dictionary words. ALAN is excluded editorially from common intermediate suggestions because it resembles a personal name; its original frequency remains in the download. Credits include freely available SUBTLEX data by Marc Brysbaert and colleagues, Google Books, Leeds, Wikipedia, ParaCrawl and OpenSubtitles. The source is a frequency estimate, not a live measure of usage.

The list is broader than everyday vocabulary and can include uncommon spellings. A route here is a candidate to try, not an official game answer. The original game decides which words it accepts; its dictionary may differ from this one. Excluding a rejected middle word is useful, but does not verify the rest of the route for you.

Only an exhausted search is labeled no path found. A failed dictionary download, integrity check or interrupted calculation asks you to retry instead. Your start and target remain in the form. Changing either word clears the old path and exclusions, keeping yesterday's or an earlier search's results from being mistaken for the current pair.

For the search method, Stanford's word-ladder assignment explains how breadth-first search finds a shortest route through a dictionary.

Poople answer and hint questions

How do I find a Poople answer for today?

Copy the four-letter starting word from your own Poople board, or enter the word where you are stuck. This helper calculates a candidate route to POOP. It does not automatically fetch today's puzzle, show an official daily answer, or verify the original game's accepted words.

How do Poople hints work?

After a search, ask which position to change, then which letter to use, then reveal the next word. Later steps stay hidden until requested. Reveal full answer shows the complete route when you choose.

Why can a common-word answer take more steps?

Common words first finds a shortest route using intermediate words above our frequency threshold. A shorter route may exist in the full list through less familiar words; the result shows both counts. Fewest steps searches the full list and favors familiar words when equally short routes tie.

Why does Poople reject a suggested word?

Our independent word list is not the original game's dictionary. Compatibility is unverified. A word can be real, frequent, and still rejected by the game. Use Avoid this word to calculate another route, then check that route in your game too.

What does no common-word route mean?

No route exists using this tool's common intermediate words and your exclusions. If a route exists in the full list, Include more words lets you choose it. No path found refers only to the selected list, not every English word. Download and calculation failures are separate errors.

Are steps the same as the number of words?

A route with five words takes four changes: the starting word is not a move. Each move replaces one letter in the same position. POOP to POOP takes zero changes. Poople uses exactly four letters; adding, removing or rearranging letters is not allowed.

Does this Poople solver use AI or store my starting word?

No AI service is called. Your starting word, exclusions and route stay in page memory and are not put in a share URL or saved as a game history. The calculation runs in your browser after static word data downloads. The site's normal privacy policy applies to visits.
